Animation Analysis - Getter - Head Splitter (music video)
For the animation analysis part of my COP essay, I have chosen the music video for Getter's Head Splitter. This animation employs various styles of glitches and relies heavily on the digital aesthetic to create the split between reality and the "high" experienced by the main character.
The crossover of reality and digital fantasy is highly sensational, and the two contrast well. The digital aesthetics are reminiscent of 80s and 90s pop culture. The "melting" animations, the bright colours and flashing lights especially, call back to the MTV idents of the 80s and 90s.
It is difficult to dismiss the similarities between the two, and the director of the video must have been heavily influenced by this retro look, wanting the same aesthetic for the modern-day video.
